the rule of St Benedict

Let them put nothing before

the work of God

(Rule of St Benedict)

Ealing Abbey Choir

There are few professional Catholic Church Choirs in London; even fewer have boy choristers, but only one serves a monastic community: in this case, the monastery of St Benedict at Ealing in West London. The Abbey Choir is part of the wider community that worships at Ealing Abbey, which includes the Parish of St Benedict and St Benedict’s School.

Drawing on the rich musical tradition of the Abbey, at the heart of which is monastic plainsong, the Abbey Choir has for one hundred years played a leading part in the musical life of the worshipping community at St Benedict’s.

Well-performed music helps us to pray, lifts us out of ourselves, giving life to words, expressing sorrow, joy and thanksgiving, creating moods of thoughtfulness and prayerfulness.

For a century the Abbey Choir has been deepening and enhancing the worship and prayer of those who come to St Benedict’s so that the spirit of St Benedict may be true in this place:

Let them put nothing before the Work of God.
